"Mineshaft" Entrance to an Indoor Archery Range

Ironwood, Michigan · 2026

The joke is in the name, and the drawing shoots it straight. What you meet is a small weathered timber building set into the corner of an existing L-shaped building with a metal shed roof covering the staircase leading to the underground range; six feet wide and set in the ground.

A deer stands at the corner of one elevation, suggesting what the building is for without the drawing having to say so.

Preliminary drawings. Not for construction.

Sheet of graphite and watercolour studies for an archery range entrance — plan and two sections with hanging lights, a stepped floor and standing figures above; below, two elevations of a small weathered timber building with a metal shed roof over the stair down, and a deer beside it.
