Studio Reverie

Studio Reverie is the architecture practice of James Goman, working from an attic room in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The work begins in pencil and mostly stays there. Plans, sections and elevations are drawn by hand, at scale, on paper — not because the drawing is precious, but because drawing slowly is how a building gets thought through. A line that took time to put down is harder to leave in the wrong place.

What the studio is after is continuity. A new house on an old street, a storefront given its porch back, a sauna that could have stood in the same clearing for eighty years. None of it is reconstruction; the memory of a form is a starting point, not a specification.

The practice takes on houses, cabins, additions, small civic and institutional studies, and the occasional building whose whole purpose is to be a good excuse for a drawing.
