Eudaemonia

June 2024

The Greek word for a life going well — not happiness exactly, more the sense of being suited to one’s own circumstances. The house is drawn to earn the name: heavy in the ground, light at the eaves, and open along the south where the terrace runs.

The plan is washed in red at the bearing walls, which is how the drawing tells you what is holding the thing up.

Preliminary drawings. Not for construction.

Graphite elevations of a two-storey stone and shingled house. The south elevation shows four gabled dormers above a band of windows and a low stone garden wall; the east elevation shows a steep gable end in coursed stone.
